Release of Alvarez Shooting Video and Notice of Protest Activity: April 28–May 1, 2021

Based on local news reports, the police will release a video, tomorrow, April 28th related to the Alvarez shooting on West Addison several weeks ago. The City will be deploying their ‘light’ infrastructure plan including positioning trucks near commercial strips. The Mayor’s Office will hold a security briefing tonight from 7:30 – 8:00 pm.

In addition, we have information indicating multiple public gatherings and protests scheduled for Wednesday, April 28th through Saturday, May 1st. Tentative info for the protest activity is listed below:

  • Unknown time at 110 N Carpenter (McDonald’s HQ). The group will gather for their cause “Don’t Be McFooled. Stop Systemic Racism.”

Wednesday, April 28th, 2021

  • 11:15 am at 1200 S Lake Shore (Shedd Aquarium) to 100 W Randolph (Thompson Center). The group will gather for their cause “We Want to Work Drive-By Protest for 10,000 Jobs!” (Weekly protest on Wednesdays).

Thursday, April 29th, 2021

  • 12:00 pm at 230 S Dearborn (Federal Plaza). The group will gather for their cause “#FreeTheVaccine.”

Friday, April 30th, 2021

  • 10:00 am at 50 W Washington (Daley Plaza). The group will gather for their cause “Cook County Gun Owners Lobby Day.”
  • 10:00 am at 230 S Dearborn (Federal Plaza). The group will gather for their cause “Children’s March for Rights in Illinois.”
  • 11:00 am at 230 S Dearborn (Federal Plaza). The group will gather for their cause “Solidarity Action: Stop the Hate of Asian Community.”
  • 5:30 pm at 1300 W Jackson (CPD Academy). The group will gather for their cause ““Abrazos No Balazod/Care Not Cops.”
  • 6:00 pm at 50 W Washington (Daley Plaza). The group will gather for their cause “Chicago Critical Mass Bicycle Caravan.”

  • 11:00 am at 1501 W Randolph (Union Park). The group will gather for their cause ”May Day March for PRO Act, Immigration Rights, and Against Police Violence.”
  • 2:00 pm at 301 Columbus (Buckingham Fountain). The group will gather for their cause “Unite the Left 2021.” 

Monday, May 3rd, 2021

  • 10:30 am at 60 E Van Buren. The group will gather for their cause “Mayday Mass Movement & March.”

Wednesday, May 5th, 2021

  • 11:15 am at 1200 S Lake Shore Drive (Shedd Aquarium). The group will gather for their cause “We Want to Work Drive-By Protest for 10,000 Jobs!” (Weekly protest on Wednesdays).

Saturday, May 8th, 2021

  • 8:00 am at 1200 N LaSalle (Planned Parenthood). The group will gather for their cause “Stand for Life Chicago.”
  • 10:30 am at 1200 S Lake Shore (Shedd Aquarium). The group will gather for their cause ““Empty the Tanks Worldwide – Chicago.”
  • 12:00 pm at various locations. The group will gather for their cause “John Lewis National Action Day.”

Safety Tips:

  • If you see something suspicious, report it
  • Carry water and stay hydrated
  • Choose a landmark to meet at in case you are separated from your group
  • Utilize the buddy system
  • Remain alert and be observant of surroundings
  • Leave any valuables at home
  • Do not jump any barricades
  • Secure handbags and wallets
  • Stay calm and pleasant
  • Follow your own instincts
  • Leave yourself room to move quickly
  • If you see an unattended bag, alert police as quickly as possible
